This position will assist the Head Athletic Trainer for Football in providing and coordinating all required medical care and coverage for the sport of football, including but not limited to; emergency medical planning and care, acute injury evaluation and treatment, short and long term rehabilitation program creation and implementation, physician medical referrals, injury prevention screening, and physiological recovery strategies. This position will oversee an Intern assistant athletic trainer for football, and undergraduate student assistants for sport of football, and fulfill administrative duties assigned by the Assoc AD of Sports Medicine.
Duties will include: Assisting Football Head Athletic Trainer with providing all aspects of daily medical needs of football team, including coverage of strength and conditioning sessions, practices, home and away competitions, and attendance at rehabilitation and treatment sessions and medical appointments of student-athletes as required. * Communicating directly with assistant coaches, grad assistant coaches, and analyst for Football regarding injuries and illnesses of student-athletes, status of ongoing rehabilitation and treatments, medical appointments, and participation status for workouts/practices/competitions when requested by Football Head Athletic Trainer. * Communicating directly with football Strength and Conditioning coaches regarding physical restrictions due to injury or illness of student-athletes when requested by Football Head Athletic Trainer. * Communicating to Football Head Athletic Trainer, Assoc AD of Sports Medicine, and Head Team Physician major medical issues of student-athletes such as Emergency Department transportation, hospitalizations, surgeries, and other significant issues. Training and supervising an Intern assistant athletic trainer for football, as well as all athletic training student assistants assigned to work with the Football program.
Administrative duties will include:
Medical record keeping, member of GA/Intern education training committee, oversee updates and upkeep of UT Sports Medicine department website, coordinate scheduling and communication of all vision and dental related appointments for football student-athletes, receive, document, and communicate all prescription medication deliveries from local pharmacy delivery service.
