The Curry College Communication Department seeks candidates for a full-time position at the Assistant Professor level in Game Development and Esports Management to spearhead the build-out of an interdisciplinary curriculum and develop a robust Gaming and Esports program. A central component of the job will include the marketing, recruitment and public relations for outreach to potential students for the program.
The successful candidate may teach courses in game history and culture, game theory, and game production and analysis as part of the Video Game Studies concentration with opportunities to teach additional courses in related areas of Communication and Media Studies suitable to one’s specialization.
Expertise in studying games as cultural objects, and in applying that expertise to the development of new game experiences for a wide array of audiences is a desirable.
Candidates must possess a terminal degree at the time of appointment in Game Studies, Game Design or a related field, including Communication, Media Studies, Science and Technology Studies, Design Studies, Product Design, Human-Centered Design, User-Experience.
Prior teaching experience with evidence of effective teaching at the college/university level is required. The ideal candidate will have a broad vision of game studies, and game design and development, with an eye on the integration of multiple disciplines in the study, analysis and design of games, and the role of games in society.
The ability to teach students from a range of backgrounds and disciplines, and to advance diversity and inclusion in games education and the games industry is highly desired.
