Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Postdoctoral Fellow will (1) identify the tryptophan metabolites made by probiotic and pathobiont bacteria, assess bacterial interactions with each other and with the host, and elucidate tryptophan-mediated effects of probiotics on pathobiont-induced inflammation, (2) determine the contribution of the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor to these interactions and effects, (3) evaluate effects of these tryptophan metabolites on intestinal organoids and perfused intestines, and (4) assess their effects on colitis development.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Participates in experimental design, maintains mice in gnotobiotic facility, and carries out experiments.
Participates in meetings with project PI’s and their laboratories.
Operates and maintains experimental equipment.
Records and analyzes data from experiments.
Maintains proper data notebook pursuant to the standards of the Department and the PI.
Contribute to the intellectual development of the project, and the writing of manuscripts.
Submit proposals for post-doctoral fellowships funding.
Supervises graduate, undergraduate and high school students in the laboratory.
Minimum Education and Experience:
MD/PhD or Ph.D. in microbiology or related disciplines. Experience working with gut microbiome, metabolomics, bioinformatics and statistical methods in microbiome research essential.
Individual must be able to work independently and work with a large multidisciplinary research team.
Excellent verbal communication and writing skills in English are a precondition.
Demonstrated experience in gnotobiotic mice models, FACS and confocal microscopy is desirable.
