The Desktop/Server Management System Administrator II will support, administer, and configure College Desktop/Server Management systems, Operating System Deployment environments, Application Deployment & Packaging systems, Enterprise Antivirus systems, and Elevated Privilege Management solutions. Responsibilities for this role would include leveraging physical and virtual environments and assigning resources and access, as required, to support the academic, instructional, and operational requirements of the College. This position will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining all environments to ensure a high level of uptime and availability.
Leverages system resource utilization data and performance metrics, in combination with monitoring, logging, and system alerting tools to ensure optimal system performance and minimal service interruptions. Creates and maintains documentation of assigned systems including architecture diagrams, test/implementation plans, operations guides, processes, and procedures. Communicates system change control, disruptive or otherwise, through formal college change management process.
Supports the patching and upgrades of applications and operating systems in the environment. Provides Tier II/III support for assigned systems and assists with in-depth troubleshooting for support teams. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive data including file access, account access, and other forensic information.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Attends all required department meetings and training. Required to serve on On-Call/On-Duty rotations for after-hours support, 24/7 availability. *Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
Usual Physical Requirements
The employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer, frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, detailed vision when focusing on computer screen. Employee pushes large carts, lifts equipment from shelves, and carries equipment from building to building by hand weighing up to 50 pounds.
Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices. Working environment has occasional exposure to dirt, dust and outdoor weather conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Enterprise Desktop Management(Microsoft Systems Center, Group Policies); Microsoft Windows Operating Systems; Antivirus Systems (Symantec); Linux Server administration; Elevated Rights Management (Cyberark); OS and Application deployment and virtualization methodologies (VMware Horizon, UEM/DEM); Networking technologies; SAN; Server management; project management best practices; disaster recovery best practices. Skill in: verbal and oral communication; operating job equipment; planning, scheduling and organizing work; general typing; application of job software programs; application of technical skills in area of specialization. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalency. At least three (3) years of progressively responsible technical experience in production IT system administration. *An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
