The Check-in and Customer Support Specialist is responsible for providing excellent customer service and guest experience for all visitors to the Mid-Ohio Market. The position will check-in visitors to the food bank and participate in any programs and activities. The Check-in and Customer Support Specialist is expected to learn and follow all Mid-Ohio Market policies and procedures inclusive of Serv Safe food handling requirements as well as to assist volunteers and customers with questions and tasks such as stocking and organizing the products.
Provides comprehensive high quality customer service inclusive of welcoming and completing the check-in process and procedures for all visitors to the Market. Assist visitors during their visit inclusive of helping them shop when needed and answering customer questions. Resolves customer and operational problems, resolving most issues on the spot. Works with Market leadership to implement program improvements for visitors. Builds and fosters relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Interprets and responds to student and general public inquiries via phone and in person.
Tracks all activities and assists Volunteer Coordinator and Mid-Ohio Market Manager with program changes and improvements. Completes and maintains required documentation. Assist Coordinator and volunteers in organizing, preparing, and stocking product received.
Assist in conducting market tours to potential volunteers and the general public; Participate as needed in programs and events by representing the Mid-Ohio Market and College at community events.
Other Duties and Requirements
Assist volunteers as needed in repacking of products; assists in warehouse and office as needed; ensure work area is cleaned and sanitized in accordance with Serv Safe standards; attend meetings and trainings as required. Hours may include working outside of a normal work week schedule as well as weekend availability on an as needed basis. *Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
Usual Physical Requirements
While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly stands and walks for extended periods of time, and occasionally sits. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 50 pounds when moving market product, files, boxes and other materials.
Food storage and grocery environment in addition to office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to these environments. May work in refrigerated areas meaning exposure to temperatures as low as 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Food storage and Serv Safe standards; standard practices within area of specialization; communication and relationship-building strategies; customer service and public relations principles. Ability to: Appreciate diversity and work effectively with persons of varying cultures and backgrounds; develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with associates, supervisors, students and faculty, and general public; answer routine inquiries in-person or by phone; work independently, demonstrating initiative and follow-through, as well as work as part of a larger team; demonstrate flexibility; maintain accurate and complete work records.
