The Berry Lab at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute is looking for a highly motivated candidate for a fully-funded postdoctoral or more senior research position. For many years, the lab has studied how populations of neurons encode information, primarily using data taken in the lab from retinal ganglion cells. More recently, the lab has started new studies of temporal sequence processing in the visual cortex, in collaboration with the Tank Lab. The aim of the current project will be to shift our studies of neural codes to populations of neurons in the cortex and other central brain structures. We are currently seeking an exceptionally talented candidate with a PhD in Neuroscience or other related field, and a strong background in one or more of the following: information theory, statistics, computer programming, and theoretical or computational neuroscience. Candidates interested in conducting experiments as well as theoretical investigations are welcome. Here, experience in rodent behavior or two-photon imaging would be a plus. The successful applicant will be an organized, self-directed learner with superior oral and written communication skills, and a desire to learn, troubleshoot, and design new experimental approaches. Familiarity with Matlab or a comparable programming language is required. The term of this appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory performance and funding.
