The Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is hiring a 12 month, Assistant Director to help manage new and expanding programs currently in place to serve the growing number of faculty. In addition, they will be tasked with creating and implementing additional professional develop opportunities for all faculty. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director to ensure ongoing program growth, quality, and improvement. In addition, they will build and sustain positive relationships with faculty, administrators and other University offices as necessary.

The Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning creates valuable and appropriate connections across campus in order to facilitate individuals’ growth as engaged university citizens; and serves faculty, pertinent supporting offices, and the institution in pursuit of teaching, scholarship and creative excellence. The Center's three areas of activity are 1) induction and ongoing support of faculty; 2) professional development focused on research-based and culturally responsive teaching practices, acquisition of skills to support diverse learners, and academic career progress; and 3) institutional change relevant to diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship and creative activities. Programming is designed to encourage reflective pedagogy and assist in creating an equitable learning environment for all faculty and students. The Center encourages self-directed inquiry through various modes including programs, learning communities, affinity and discussion groups, and conference participation.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assume a central leadership role in serving on university advisory boards, task forces and committees that are related to faculty development.
Maintain working relationships with campus partners to ensure collaboration and a streamlined process for all of our professional development offerings.
Provide programming information in order to allow the Faculty Center to make strategic decisions about targeting future offerings for faculty.
Develop, implement and assess college–level mentoring programs. Also, create mentoring programs to include directed development for faculty seeking further promotion, i.e., post tenure.
Develop and provide appropriate teaching excellence training in collaboration with colleges/departments that could be universal for graduate students who will be serving in teaching assistant and instructor of record roles.
Create and implement innovative statistical tracking techniques to assess our faculty development programming.
Develop innovative ways to offer new programming to all faculty using technological methods that can meet the needs of our diverse faculty schedules.
Take full responsibility for management of the 2 systems for online student survey of teaching effectiveness that fall under the prevue of the Faculty Center. Duties would include helping faculty with their inquiries, manage complications that arise, setting up instructions for all end-users, and working with appropriate parties to ensure accurate release dates and timely reports.
Develop training materials for the newly adopted CampusLabs web based software for student evaluations. Manage and oversee the site administration of this newly adopted software each and every semester for every part of term offered; estimated use: at least 50% of courses each semester (about 3,000-4,000 course sections)
Work with Director to offer and coordinate all of the Faculty Center’s current programs focused on professional development and excellence in teaching.
Work with Director to oversee, implement and review the current grant/award offerings and help to identify ways to offer additional excellence in teaching grant opportunities for faculty.
Maintain current in best practices for excellence in teaching and learning.
Bachelor’s degree required (preferred to be in higher education administration or related field)
4 years of professional experience (preferably college level teaching experience)
Knowledge of best practices in pedagogy
Ability to work without supervision
Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete various projects within designated deadlines
Exemplary attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information in person and through electronic communications
Excellent interpersonal skills, use of tact, patience and courtesy
Experience in utilizing Microsoft Applications, Google drive applications and electronic reporting processes
Master’s degree in higher education administration or related field
At least 1 year of higher education administration experience
