This position is in the Department of Campus Life in the Danforth University Center (DUC) on the Danforth Campus.
The Coordinator for Leadership and Service is an integral part of the Department of Campus Life achieving its mission of empowering students to discover and define themselves and their communities through advising, programs and resources.� The Coordinator advises a variety of student groups focused on community service initiatives and programs while also being responsible for the implementation of campus wide leadership programs.� In addition, this staff member will serve as the primary contact and coordinator for an annual immersive experience program featured during orientation for the incoming class. This individual reports to the Associate Director of Campus Life in the area of Leadership Development and is a part of the student group advising team.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise students and/or groups of students regarding community engagement and community service.� These would include Alpha Phi Omega (service fraternity), Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, and other highly visible and impactful student groups interacting with the St. Louis community through service.
Serve as the point person for groups seeking community service opportunities through the event registration process managed by Campus Life.
Oversee the creation and implementation of an annual three day, leadership focused Immersive Experience during the new student orientation program, Bear Beginnings.
Assess, create, assist and implement campus wide leadership training programs specifically serving the undergraduate student population.� Current programs include the Emerging Leaders program and a Student Group Leaders Training Program, and the Excellence in Leadership Student Group Awards Program.
Recruit, advise, and oversee students in the LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) Project. This will include co-creating programs, retreats providing professional development opportunities for and with the students.
Support, attend, and participate in departmental and divisional functions, meetings, programs, and events. Serve as a resource for the Division of Student Affairs and the campus community on topics of student engagement.
Develop, plan, coordinate, promote, and execute programs for students that are intended to enhance leadership development, increase student engagement, and support the student community. This includes providing assistance related to assessment of the programs offered.
Advise students and/or groups of students regarding:
best practices related to student programming and event planning.
Interpretation and enforcement of University policies and procedures related to student organizations and campus programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
One to three years of professional experience working in a university setting or a related field. (Graduate degree or assistantship experience in the field of student affairs may qualify as professional experience.)
Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or a related field.
One to three years of post-graduate professional experience within student affairs.
Demonstrated comprehension of current issues related to student engagement and development, leadership, multiculturalism, and diversity.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Comfortable with utilizing new technologies, as appropriate.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to, editing and copywriting, public speaking, and group facilitation.
Demonstrated success in event planning.
Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
Cross-cultural communication experience in order to effectively connect and communicate with individual students and student groups.
Ability to manage multiple priorities at once and have excellent problem-solving skills in order to provide optimal choices when advising students/student groups.
Comfortable with ambiguity and demonstrate flexibility.
Ability to build strong rapport with students and campus partners.
The hiring range for this position is $44,987 - $57,369 annually.

This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week. While the department is housed in the Danforth University Center, frequent walking inside and outside is a regular part of this job. Schedule will vary, based on student events.
