The Nonprofit Leadership Studies Program (NLS) is dedicated to strengthening the capacity of Murray State University (MSU) graduates to exert positive impacts on the world through personal and professional commitments. The program envisions building communities that acknowledge and respect human difference; promote engaged responsible citizenship in a democratic society; and enhance international and global understanding.
The NLS Program is seeking leadership that will ensure alignment with the needs of civil society and the nonprofit sector into the future. Institutional and community support provide an opportunity for the program director to innovate, build, and grow all aspects of the NLS Program. Service learning teaching methodology is integrated throughout the NLS Program curriculum to ensure opportunities for students to apply their classroom knowledge to the community at large.
The NLS Program is committed to teaching, research, and service excellence and includes a University Studies core course in the Social and Self-Awareness, Responsible Citizenship and Social Services thematic area; an undergraduate major and minor; and a graduate certification program, the courses of which are accepted by graduate programs across campus, including curricular concentrations in the Masters in Human Development and Leadership and the Masters in Public Administration. In addition, there is a long history of workshops and consultancies in support of nonprofit organizations across the region, supported by a strong partnership with the Community Foundation of West Kentucky.
The faculty member is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses across the curriculum, both in the classroom and through online technology; pursue an active research agenda; engage related professional associations; provide service to the university and community; and recruit and academically advise students. As Director the faculty member will ensure that the curriculum aligns with national standards. Working with university and community partners, the Director provides leadership that advances the NLS Program's vision and goals.
