Position Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Washington, School of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (ARNP or PA). The Advanced Practice Provider is an integrated role which includes clinical, education and research components. The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington as Teaching Associate with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020. This is a full-time position with a twelve month appointment with salary paid over twelve months for eleven months of service.

The APP works in collaboration with physicians to actively coordinate the complex care of cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. This position will coordinate the care of patients being treated at University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC Montlake) and the SCCA Proton Therapy Center (SPTC) and patients seen at Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) under the supervision of an attending physician. The incumbent will provide the initial evaluation for TBI (total body irradiation) patients including arrangement for treatment simulation. The incumbent must possess the ability to function independently.

This position will coordinate the Pediatric (Peds) oncology and TBI services on behalf of the attending physicians and serve as the main point of contact for referring providers, the transplant service, and our Intake Staff.

Specific responsibilities include:

• See TBI new patient consults, enter diagnosis codes and orders for simulation, track TBI patients from consult to TBI treatment, and act as liaison between transplant service and radiation oncology service
• Coordinate with the SCH / UWMC / SPTC staff to make sure that all the necessary imaging and records are available for review prior to patients visits
• Assist with documentation of clinic visits, radiation treatment summaries
• Act as liaison between Peds oncology service at SCH and Peds radiation oncology service at UW and SPTC
• Enter diagnosis codes for new EBRT patients, enter simulation orders, assist with treatment planning (ensure appropriate images have been imported and fused, contour normal anatomy) and help monitor dosimetry workflow for new patient starts
• Communicate with patients on behalf of attending physician
• Communicate with referring services on behalf of attending physician
• Help manage prior authorization requests (insurance approvals for imaging and/or radiation treatments) when beyond the scope and knowledge of the Intake Staff (when clinical expertise is needed)

This APP role is different from the other services within Radiation Oncology as the Peds and TBI patients do not have follow up visits in our clinics. Should the incumbent desire an increase in their clinical portfolio, the Medical Director is prepared to broaden the scope of services s/he will support. This will result in an increase of clinical responsibilities.

Desired:

• Oncology Nursing Society certification desired, but not required
• Must be approved for a faculty Teaching Associate position by the School of Medicine and Department of Radiation Oncology

Qualifications

• Licensed in the State of Washington as an Adult Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or eligible for registration as a Physician's Assistant (PA)
• Must be eligible to receive hospital staff privileges
• Prescriptive privileges required or be eligible to apply
