Teaching experience, professional experience in food and beverage management, or a record of publication in discipline-specific scholarly journals is preferred. Active participation in relevant academic or professional organizations such as the Foodservice Systems Management Education Council, the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education, or Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is also preferred. Within the Food Service Management and Food Science and Nutrition sequence, teach undergraduate/graduate courses in a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen, develop a focused area of scholarship, mentor graduate students, provide service to the University and profession, and supervise undergraduate and graduate professional practice students.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Food Service Management. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach in the following areas: restaurant operations, food service management, hospitality, food planning, marketing & cost control, quantity foods, or similar courses within the Food Service Management and Food Science and Nutrition degree sequence. Applicants must also demonstrate a record of or potential for research and publication in scholarly journals in the discipline. Additional expectations include mentoring and assisting undergraduate and graduate students, service to the department and the college, and scholarly/research activities. The appointment will include 75% teaching and 25% research and scholarly activity expectations.
