The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located12 miles westof the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. The Research Assistant 2 will support ongoing and future studies in the Division of Neuroscience at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC). The applicant will have set duties and will also interact with an interdisciplinary team of graduate, post-doctoral, visiting scientists and campus-wide staff.Studies will involve research on aging, including basic neuroscience, neurodegenerative disease, physiology and behavior, using biochemical, molecular, histological, imaging and behavioral assessments.
Bachelors Degree (4 year) with a general background in biology, chemistry and biochemistry
Ability to work both independently and as a cooperative team member
Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Ability to interact in a positive and productive manner and work efficiently and skillfully with diverse campus staff
Prioritizes work and coordinates research protocols with other staff
Organized with attention to detail
Performs procedures consistently, completely, in a timely manner
Keeps detailed experimental records, cataloging of samples, data entry
Ability to lift/move equipment weighing up to 40 lbs
Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time
Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Bachelors or Masters Degree
Background in laboratory techniques
1+ years of research lab experience, with histology, biochemistry, molecular biology background
Effective communicator, including use and meaning of scientific terminology, in written and oral formats
Independent, competent to perform data management and analysis, including use of spreadsheets, graphics and statistical programs
Experience working with laboratory animals including, in vivo sample collection or at necropsy
