An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced sarcoma researcher as an Assistant Professor in Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR.
The Researcher will join a well-established and accomplished Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. The Division is rapidly expanding across several areas of cancer in an environment characterized by a high level of prior accomplishments.
The laboratory will reside in close proximity to those of Dr. Brian Druker, Director of the Knight Cancer Institute and a Howard Hughes investigator; Dr. Gordon Mills, Professor and Director of Precision Oncology; and Dr. Lara Davis of the Knight Cancer Institute Sarcoma Program. This rich working environment will allow for access to a wide range of scientific equipment, resources and collaborators.
The Sarcoma Translational Science Researcher will be expected to develop an independent research program that will achieve national and international recognition, while working as a member of a multidisciplinary team closely aligned to improve the clinical outcome for people with sarcoma. They will also take on occasional teaching assignments within the university, consistent with the education mission of OHSU.
The Researchers duties will include scientific project oversight of the laboratory, research project management, scientific writing and grant management, laboratory organization and compliance, collaborative interactions, and various clinical activities. They will also be expected to seek both intramural and external funding.
Doctorate degree in relevant field and 5 years of relevant work experience
4 years of research experience
Experience in the area of sarcoma, especially in the areas of cancer biology, pre-clinical models, novel therapeutics and/or biomarkers
Excellence demonstrated in grant and manuscript writing and editing
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suiteand statistical analysis software
Strong publication record
Experience handling chemical and biologically hazardous materials
Knowledge of policy and regulations applicable to clinical research
Technical proficiency, scientific creativity collaborative ability, and independent thinker
Proven ability to work collaboratively with a high performing work group
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent analytical and organizational skills

4 years of supervisory and project management experience
Experience with in-vivo and in-vitro models of sarcoma, preclinical testing of novel therapeutics in sarcoma, drug discovery, sarcoma biomarkers, statistics, bioinformatics, and experience with sarcoma clinical trial data evaluation
