General Requirements:

High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Current Doctoral student in a doctoral program in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Experience in a related counseling field preferred.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Performs entry-level specialist duties for the Counseling Center. The Intern will gain practice in an organized health service facility.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Performs entry-level specialist duties. Conducts intake interviews with students who request counseling services. Provides individual, group, and couples counseling to Sam Houston State University (SHSU) students on a scheduled or crisis intervention basis. Provides clinical supervision to Practicum students. Maintains timely documentation on clients and supervisees. Provides outreach workshops. Provides crisis intervention and consultation services. Consults with faculty and staff concerning student needs. Acts as a liaison between client and community resources as needed. Attends training, seminars, and supervision on a weekly basis. Will represent the department and division at public relations events. Provides departmental or university information to students, departments, and staff. Assists in coordinating and scheduling appointments and activities. Interprets policies and procedures. Assists in compiling, tracking, and reviewing data and reports. Assists in preparing, reviewing, revising, and distributing reports, documents, and correspondence. Performs other related duties as assigned.
