The Communication Specialist in Marketing and Strategic Communications (MSC) within the Office of Student Academic Success (OSAS) is responsible for preparing executive communications (e.g., event briefings, talking points, presentations, emails, newsletters and social media content) to support the vice provost for the Office of Student Academic Success (OSAS). Produce quality content to support and promote the development of strategic communications plans for OSAS and university initiatives. The position will collaborate with MSC and OSAS team members to gather information and produce brand appropriate messaging to be shared both internally and externally via various channels including print, presentations, websites, newsletters and social media. Communication responsibilities include conducting research and preparing information for meetings; prepare talking points and coordinate speech needs, as requested for and by the vice provost for OSAS. Must create and/or direct a portfolio of executive and internal communication channels, developing strategy for effective communications and positive touch points with key audiences (e.g., newsletter, periodical, talking points, presentations, etc.). Coordinate steps for timely completion of communication flows and projects. Work closely with OSAS units and other units across campus to gather and share information and produce high-quality communications. Provide oversight and management of OSAS social media account(s). MSC responsibilities include support of the executive director of MSC team on special projects that support strategic communications across OSAS. Support strategic initiatives with communications about the OSAS vision, chief initiatives and key messages. Provide editorial support and creative input across MSC upon request. Assist with special writing and editing assignments and shared projects as assigned. Maintain relationships with communications and outreach and engagement peers. Understands and supports the larger university mission and reinforces institutional messages in all communication content. Follow and advocate for university and OSAS editorial and style guidelines. Performs other projects and duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum of three years of professional writing/strategic communications experience; demonstrated organizational, collaborative, social media, writing, editing and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Executive communications experience writing for a CEO/president, senior university administrator or corporate official, including speech writing. Knowledge of higher education. Knowledge of university and AP style.
Target Salary: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 Annually
