About the Virtual Lab School
Created by experts at The Ohio State University, the Virtual Lab School (VLS) addresses a critical need for an easy to navigate online professional development and resource system that empowers professionals to build their knowledge and skills around research-based practices in child care and youth development. Supported by an extensive repository of professional development videos, research-based content, and relevant, interactive learning materials, the VLS simulates the enriching learning experiences found in university lab school settings.
The VLS system offers distinct tracks for center-based professionals including direct-care providers (infant/toddler, preschool, and school-age), training and curriculum specialists (coaches), and management personnel, as well as a track for home-based care providers who typically care for mixed- age groups. Anchored by 15 Core Content courses that include the 13 Functional Areas of the Child Development Associate competency standards used in early care settings around the world, the Core Content covers research-based developmentally appropriate practices for working with children from birth to age 12 across all the functional roles in child and youth care and education settings.
In addition to the Core Content, the VLS features a series of special topics and other resources that support the development of a highly trained and effective workforce.
Reporting to the Principal Investigators of the Virtual Lab School Project (VLS), the Administrative Associate (AA) will provide administrative coordination and facilitation of activities within the VLS, supporting the work and mission of the VLS projects, the PI's, and various teams and working groups in a research/outreach environment. The AA makes appointments, schedules meetings, takes notes, and accurately documents decisions; helps to coordinate and oversee the office's physical space and electronic storage to ensure the VLS team can best accomplish their work and filing procedures are followed; makes travel arrangements; composes correspondence and drafts materials for signature; manages projects at the direction of the project PI's; monitors expenditures; prepares reports, and coordinates and problem-solves project interface with university systems, project consultants, and external partners. The Administrative Associate will maintain a physical and reliable presence within VLS and provides exceptional service and assistance with questions and concerns about policies, procedures and services. The AA ensures supplies are stocked, connects staff to resources, and responds in a timely manner to questions/requests.
The Administrative Associate reports to the Associate Director of Research and Professional Development. The position is also an active team member and works closely with other Content Coordinators as well as Project Co-PI. This position will work with child, family, and youth programs serving the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. This is an opportunity to build and maintain a training platform to better serve teachers, trainers, and program directors working in the military child-care system. This position will work from Bevis Hall on the university's West Campus.
In the first 60 to 90 days of employment, the successful candidate for this position will accomplish the following: -Develop a comprehensive understanding of college and university policies and procedures -Establish pivotal relationships within the DoDVLS client groups, college, and across the university's child development and research resource units -Develop an in-depth understanding of current DoDVLS content, implementation strategies, and website, as well as relevant research which supports the program
The selected candidate for this position will have demonstrated success in several areas, including:
-A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or an appropriate area or an equivalent combination of education and experience -2-4 years of experience in an administrative capacity
