Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Compensation Manager for Rutgers’ University Human Resources. The Compensation Manager assists with the planning, developing, and implementing new and revised compensation programs, policies, procedures, as it relates to the University's compensation philosophy in order to be responsive to the University's goals and competitive practices.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Partners with the Director of Compensation to create detailed project plans outlining areas for improvement.
Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures recommending plan revisions as well as new plans which are consistent with compensation trends and University's objectives.
Participates in system design, development, platform dashboard, testing and team training.
Recommends compensation related systems enhancements and performs testing.
Responsible for the FLSA exemption classifications for all job descriptions.
Evaluates external market data and compares to current salary structures to make recommendations on salary structure movement.
Monitors the job evaluation process to analyzes job content, focusing on the duties, responsibilities and required skills & knowledge needed to fulfill the position and determine appropriate grade level within the University compensation structure based on the nature and level of the work performed relative to the business and importance to the University.
Analyzes market data to ensure external competitiveness and conduct an internal compare across the University for a holistic view.
Works closely with Office of Labor Relations (OLR) as it relates to bargaining union contracts compensation practices.
Monitors the faculty pay equity and grievance review processes.
Assist the business and the HR Generalist to prepare job descriptions, as needed.
Provide guidance to business regarding compensation and salary administration as it relates to the compensation policies and bargaining union contracts.
Proactive partner with all levels of management to resolve problems, discuss pending changes, discuss salary recommendations, job description evaluations and salary range adjustments.
Compiles complex data and summarizes into clear concise presentations for management to make decisions.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Psychology, or a related field.
Five – Seven years of experience in Compensation practices: compensation programs, job evaluation, market pricing methodology, compensation modeling and advanced analytics preferably in a higher education and/or healthcare environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Direct compensation management experience
Must possess applicable knowledge in federal and state regulatory requirements
Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information, and to manage conflict and highly complex situations and relationships are essential
Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities
Advanced degree in related field
Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) strongly preferred
Experience in a higher education and/or healthcare environment
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to sit for a minimum of 7.5 hours per day
