Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Library Associate II for The Paul Robeson Library – Camden. This position reports to the Head of Access Services and is responsible for coordinating operations of the library access services during assigned hours. The Library Associate II completes work under the direction of the supervisor for access services with specific instructions on work, and in accordance with the Libraries policies and procedures. Access services include circulation, reserves, document delivery, interlibrary loan/resource sharing, collection maintenance and management, student workers coordination, assessment and quality control, space, facilities and security coordination, and marketing/outreach.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides university students, faculty, staff, and the general public access to and use of library information resources in a variety of formats.
Receives and prepares materials for circulation, places items on reserve, and processes intra/inter-library loan requests.
Identifies damaged material and coordinate preservation and bindery activities.
Assists patrons in locating materials and provides policy, general operating information, and other assistance.
Assists with keeping local standard operating procedures documentation current and communicates process changes to student staff.
Participates in library functional working groups as necessary.
Trains student employees
May perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates general knowledge and understanding of library operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills required, as well as good organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
Requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural work environment
Ability to learn and routinely use the integrated library system, both the public catalog and staff system
Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats
Must have effective customer services skills and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and the general public
Computer and Internet skills
Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office productivity software
Three to four years' general academic library experience, preferably in Access Services and/or Collection Management.
Experience in an Access Services department within an Academic Library.
Experience with resource-sharing programs.
Bibliographic and resource sharing utilities, including Rutgers University Libraries integrated library system (currently Alma), the catalog for the PALCI system; OCLC, the primary national bibliographic utilities; ARIEL, a document delivery utility.
Also requires use of the Circulation module of Alma, Primo the discovery tool.
General use of a PC, Microsoft Office as well as scanning (print and microform) equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift and move up to thirty (30) pounds and push book trucks.
Assigned hours may change throughout the year based on the Academic Calendar.
Works schedule subject to change dependent on the needs of the department, and will vary during summers, intersessions and exam periods, etc.
