The School of Design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University seeks a highly accomplished, energetic, and visionary leader to serve as its Director beginning July 1, 2020. The School seeks a Director with exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and advocacy skills who is innovative, entrepreneurial, collaborative, a creative problem solver, and dedicated to sustainable practice. A Director who has demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of engagement with students, colleagues, and community members is a necessity. The Director's overall responsibilities include staff and faculty hiring, supervision, curricular and program development and assessment, faculty professional development (promotion and tenure); student welfare and advisement; resource management; recruitment, advancement, and public relations.
With nearly a century of excellence in preparing designers for professional practice, the NASAD accredited, Research 1 School of Design exemplifies a commitment to uphold the highest achievement in creative and scholarly endeavors, and cultivates bold, imaginative, reciprocal local and global partnerships. The School of Design is comprised of 440 students and 43 faculty, with undergraduate majors in Communications Design, Design Studies, Environmental and Interior Design, Fashion Design, and Industrial and Interaction Design, minors in Design, Fashion, and Museum Studies, and graduate programs in Design and Museum Studies. Our students and faculty collaborate across the full spectrum of the University, enhancing our investigations into the complexities of contemporary design practice and scholarship, exploring and provoking transformative change.
