Manage key aspects of programming and community development for Associated Residential Community Housing (ARCH). Responsible to assist supervisor in coordination, as needed, of all facets of ARCH programming and community development program. The incumbent plays an integral role in implementing the community development program as it relates to creating a safe and secure living and learning environment for graduate students and families.
Supports the personal, educational, social and professional development of ARCH residents. Provides high-level administrative support on a wide variety of complex and sensitive issues. Makes operational decisions in absence of supervisor. Assists in coordinating the Community Assistant (CA) program, which includes the selection process, comprehensive trainings, and meetings.
Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 7 divisions, with approximately 700 career employees, 1000 to 1200 student employees and an annual operating budget of greater than $189 million. HDH provides housing for approximately 15,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families in over 400 buildings covering approximately 6 million sq. ft.
HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan which will add 5000 new beds and almost double our square footage by 2021. Currently, HDH houses 38% of UCSD's enrolled students with a goal of housing 50% in the near future. HDH provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services and catering services to residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
Variable schedule to include occasional overtime and weekends to meet heavy workload periods.
Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Proven leadership skills with ability to act independently and exercise sound judgment with the acumen and sensitivity to identify those decisions and activities which require higher level consultation and/or group collaboration.
Effective interpersonal, group and cross-cultural communication. Skill in leading, and promoting leadership within diverse populations, particularly students. Skill in public speaking and presentations. Ability to lead and facilitate effective group activities.
Proven ability to help students reflect on and understand community living concepts by processing critical incidents they experience. Familiarity with and understanding of student needs and concerns. Ability to research, evaluate, assess and find solutions for changing student needs.
Excellent organizational abilities, project management skills, and analytical and problem-solving skills, including synthesis of information, consideration of alternatives.
Demonstrated understanding of the developmental and educational context in which the student conduct process is administered and managed.
Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state regulations related to student conduct, including FERPA and Clery Act.
Skill to effectively communicate clear and concise policy statements, reports, and memoranda on subjects of a sensitive nature with ability to provide well-reasoned arguments verbally, in writing, and electronically.
Proficiency with computer software applications including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite and MS Outlook. Willingness and commitment to regularly maintain and update technology skills as required.
