The University of Pittsburgh, Dept. of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to work in the laboratory of Dr. Jami Saloman.
The laboratory uses anatomical, behavioral, optogenetic, calcium imaging and standard cell/molecular techniques to study peripheral mechanisms of pain as well as neuro-immune interactions in the context of cancer. The successful candidate will have experience in the fields of neuroscience and/or immunology and be responsible for performing general lab bench procedures and/or animal studies. We are especially interested in candidates that can handle multi-tasking and are flexible as the needs of the lab often change. Similarly, the ability to troubleshoot problems and issues that relate to research and lab logistics is valued.
The Saloman lab is highly collaborative and requires the candidate to have the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals. Meticulous work habits, dependability, good communication skills and the ability to clearly document data and activities is required.
Common Laboratory Techniques/Duties: - Surgical procedures - Behavioral assays - Immunohistochemistry - Biochemical assays (enzymes assays, ELISA, multiplex, immunoblotting, Co-IP) - DNA/RNA (genotyping, qPCR0 - Primary cell cultures - Maintaining/manipulating cell lines - Calcium imaging - Experience with transplant and genetic tumor models or pain models is preferable - Experience with flow cytometry/FACS and other basic immunological assays is considered a bonus.
Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
