Essential Job Duties:
This position is part of a project examining the transcriptional control of gene expression in response to microgravity in plants. This research position will examine existing expression data resources, identify candidates for analysis, develop expression systems for rapid cloning, yeast one hybrid analysis, and monitoring of transcriptional responses using reporter systems.
This position will conduct original research on transcriptional regulation in altered gravity; prepare research proposals, fellowship applications, and manuscripts for journal publication; will assist with student mentoring; and will participate in research meetings both on campus and with collaborators.
The postdoc will meet frequently with Dr. Doherty to discuss best practices in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring.
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment.
A PhD in biochemistry, plant science, molecular biology, genetics, computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field is required.
Must have independent research experience in plant molecular biology, a strong background in transcriptional regulation, and excellent communication skills.
Enthusiastic and highly motivated to work in data analysis and reporter systems.
Familiarity with the command line and programming in R or another language is a strong plus.
Experience with generating and analyzing both transcriptional and translational reporters in plants and developing transcriptional assays.
Extensive experience in computational analysis of transcriptional data, large-scale data sets, and integration of different data types is preferred.
