Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an IRB Administrator for the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED). This position provides critical regulatory support to the Rutgers IRBs through coordination, facilitation, and monitoring of single Institutional Review Board (sIRBs), commercial IRBs, facilitated studies as well as development and implementation of IRB or IACUC authorization and reliance agreements as needed. This may include such oversight and administration of these agreements for the IACUCs, as well as COI and other research regulatory areas.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Conducts regulatory required tasks that are university wide and that encompass all study sites, manages and directs initial and continuing review of research, reporting of unanticipated problems and serious or continued non compliance.
Screens research protocols submitted for review, facilitates the review of such protocols, including review and approval of non-human subjects determinations, exemptions, and expedited protocols, as appropriate; and, as needed, serves as a voting/alternate member of IRBs.
Acts as subject matter expert on the protection of human subject research, including regulations governing the use of such subjects, provides education and training to reviewers, committee members, committees, faculty researchers, and staff on a wide variety of topics (e.g., fluency in disciplines ranging from social-behavioral research, to biomedical).
Utilizes home grown and other University databases, and must be fluent and demonstrate high skill in the use of office IT (e.g., OneDrive, shared and collaborative platforms, etc.).
Protects integrity and confidentiality of research, generates agendas and minutes and reports as needed, assists faculty users with electronic protocol submission.
Reviews and certifies grant proposals to funding agencies for regulatory compliance and provides advice to researchers regarding federal and other relevant regulations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of five years of human subjects or research experience is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the IRB process
Demonstrated verbal and writing skills
Solid PC skills including thorough knowledge of MS Office functions and electronic database tracking systems, including cloud and collaborative platforms.
Outstanding interpersonal and management skills, a collaborative style, and experience working with faculty, staff, and students in achieving their research goals.
Must be able to work independently, with minimal oversight, and prioritizes as appropriate.
Travels to other campuses and locations of the University as needed.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to travel, when necessary, to sites throughout New Jersey for business demands.
Certified IRB Professional or Certified IRB Manager certification
Masters or other advanced degrees, prior work in human subject research, or research compliance, protocol writing and/or document review, and grant proposal congruence review.
Three years of experience in a research environment preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Occasional travel to other campuses as needed.
