Develop and direct programs and services in alignment with the mission of the Center for Teaching Innovation & Exchange (C/TIE), which is to support dynamic teaching at MICA; provide training and resources that promote a lively exchange of ideas concerning equitable and engaged pedagogy; and make teaching and learning practices more accessible, collaborative, and responsive to the unique needs of postsecondary art & design education in the 21st century.
Summary of Essential Functions:
Develop and oversee the strategic planning, physical spaces, budget, programming, and daily operations for the C/TIE
Work closely with faculty and staff to ensure the provision of effective services that align with the mission, vision, and guiding principles of the C/TIE (see attachment) and MICAâs Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Globalization (DEIG) efforts to realize a globalized curriculum and postcolonial pedagogy/andragogy
Develop the C/TIE as an intellectual hub on campus with regard to research, trends, and innovations in teaching and learning
Advise the Associate Vice President of Educational Planning & Development on current developments and long-range planning in the C/TIE
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide vision and leadership for faculty development at MICA that promotes innovation and excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment
Collaborate regularly with faculty and academic leadership to understand their concerns and needs related to faculty development at MICA
Work with faculty and staff to develop resources, programs, and workshops with an emphasis onÂ equitable and engaged pedagogy/andragogy in art & design that are grounded in current research and evidence-based practices
Coach, or facilitate the coaching of, individual faculty or groups of faculty in their development of pedagogical approaches aimed at enhancing teaching effectiveness and postcolonial pedagogy/andragogy
Oversee new faculty orientation programming that promotes inclusive pedagogy and builds community among new faculty
Oversee instructional technology staff in order to facilitate the integration of technology in the classroom/studio
Represent the C/TIE as a thought leader in the scholarship of teaching and learning through engagement with professional communities
Design and manage the C/TIE physical spaces
Seek out one adjunct teaching assignment per year (normally, a 3-credit course to be compensated at the
appropriate adjunct step)
Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Significant knowledge and experience with student-centered learning and art & design pedagogy/andragogy including the critique
Ability to invent new proposals, initiatives, and projects that result in successful adoption and sustainability over time
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with a diverse group of faculty and staff both individually and in group settings
Facility with a variety of computer programs including MS Office, Google Suite, and Canvas
Solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in a self-motivated environment
Ability to multitask and demonstrate resourcefulness in stressful situations
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
Masterâs degree in a relevant discipline
Must submit a cover letter
Demonstrated years teaching college-level courses and evidence of excellence in teaching in higher education
Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture of inclusion in classroom environments
Demonstrated evidence of successful collaborations with faculty and staff
Strong written and oral communication skills
Terminal degree in a visual art, design, or art education discipline
Experience with interdisciplinary, field-based, and practice-based teaching and learning
Experience facilitating professional development on topics related to student-centered, culturally-responsive teaching and learning practices
Experience creating collaborative communities of practice for faculty
Experience in integrating educational technology with pedagogy including ePortfolios
Knowledge of/experience with the TPACK framework, outcomes-based curricular design, and student learning assessment
Familiarity with postcolonial pedagogies
Presentations at regional or national conferences or publications on topics related to faculty development or the scholarship of teaching and learning Â
