The Jain Lab (https://ishajainlab.com/) at the University of California, San Francisco is looking for a Specialist at the Junior, Assistant, Associate, or Full ranks to begin working ASAP. A minimum two-year commitment is required. The scientific goal is to study oxygen and vitamin metabolism with the long-term vision of developing new therapies. The Specialist will be expected to perform a range of biochemistry techniques (cloning, western blots, protein biochemistry, tissue culture, microscopy, etc.), and animal work (maintaining mouse colonies, designing breeding schemes, keeping daily record of body weights/survival/activity, basic dissections, etc.).
The breakdown of responsibilities is as follows: Lab management (ordering, lab inventory, IACUC/BUA protocol, misc tasks) (20%); Animal husbandry (breeding, tagging, genotyping, keep track of cages/crosses, etc.) (15%); Basic animal work (weights, behavior tests, temperature, blood draw, basic dissections) (10%); Cell culture work (passaging cells, doing growth curves) (15%); Molecular biology work (transfection, infection, flow cytometry, westerns, etc.) (10%); Advanced animal work (surgeries, stereotaxic injections, blood pressure, plethysmograph, etc.) (30%)
Required Qualifications: • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience. • Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate ranks must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of research experience. • Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience.
Preferred Qualifications: • Previous experience with sophisticated animal work (surgeries, behavior tests, physiology).
