This position is in the Department of Ob/Gyn, Division of Gynecologic Oncology. The position is located at the Barnes-Jewish Center for Outpatient Health. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position provides secretarial support and office services related to routine business, administrative and patient care for faculty members.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules patient appointments, answers patients inquires, and routes patient calls. Triages patient, physician and business inquiries to appropriate faculty and staff.
Works with insurance companies, verifying patient eligibility and gathering all necessary pre-certifications and consents for office visits and testing.
Establishes and maintains medical records. Destroys outdated records following clearly defined procedures for retention and destruction. Delivers and retrieves patient records and correspondences from clinics.
Processes medical record releases in accordance with office policy.
Assists with FMLA and disability paperwork.
Assists team as necessary to support the genetic counseling clinic, ensuring patients records are prepared prior to clinic, may attend clinic to offer necessary support to the patients and provider, completes appropriate testing paperwork, pre-authorizes testing, ships samples, as well as tracks results for post-test follow up. Assists with other office duties as necessary.
Provides photocopy and fax services, sorts and distributes mail.
Attends meetings as required.
Equivalent of a high school diploma.
Two years of experience in a healthcare/medical-related office setting.
Office skills, including the use of PC data systems and general office equipment.
Effective telephone practices.
Some knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.
Proficiency with alpha filing procedures.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work well with limited supervision.
The hiring range for this position is $14.31 - $17.88 per hour.
