Applicants must be a Registered Dietitian and hold the credentials necessary to become a Licensed Dietitian in the state of Texas.
The Didactic Program Director will be an active member of the faculty of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences teaching three to four courses each fall and spring semester, engage in scholarly activity, and service activities to the Department, College and University, as well as be active in appropriate academic and professional associations. The faculty member will teach nutrition courses in the FSN program pertinent to the profession with specific courses assigned by the Department Chair in coordination with the Program Coordinator for Food Science and Nutrition. This individual will teach summer courses on an as-needed basis and maintain continuing education to support proficiency in teaching content areas. In this context, the DPD is responsible to assure that the teaching, scholarship and service activities support the mission, goals, and outcomes of the program. Time allocation: 75%
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Sam Houston State University is seeking to fill a Clinical Assistant Professor position with the primary responsibility to direct efforts as the Didactic Program Director (DPD) for the ACEND-Accredited program in Food Science & Nutrition. This position is a 9-month appointment with a 3-month summer teaching and administrative duties. Expectations include advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, service to the department and the college, and scholarly/research activities.
This appointment will include preparing and writing the self-study report for the FSN program's ACEND re-accreditation site visit scheduled to occur in the fall of 2020. The Didactic Program Director is responsible to assure that the program activities integrate effectively and efficiently with the mission, vision and overall operations of the department. The DPD is responsible to assure that the program meets the accreditation criteria established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics; and in cooperation with the Program Coordinator and the Dietetic Internship Coordinator. Time allocation for the DPD position is 25% and includes the responsibilities, as determined by ACEND, and the needs of the FSN program.
