LIM College – Where Business Meets Fashion is currently seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Vice President of Career and Internship Services.

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for CIS provides overall vision and leadership for the career education, career coaching, and employer relations of the College's undergraduate and graduate students (both brick-and-mortar and fully online), including the development and modification of experiential curricula. The AVP is responsible for the quality of functions that help to ensure superior career readiness among the LIM College student body. The AVP oversees career coaching provided to students as part of their career development, ensuring the coordination of advisement with coursework and with students' overall career-related learning goals. The AVP supervises and oversees all aspects of internship and job search services offered to students and alumni, and oversees the cultivation and development of new employers and post-graduate opportunities for students and alumni.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Department Oversight and Management
Provide strategic vision for the department, ensuring the highest quality internship experiences for students
Oversee all the functions, services and business operations provided by the CIS department
Ensure a relevant and challenging experiential curriculum, and coordinate internships with the classroom curriculum
Develop and mentor departmental managers and professional staff
Provide team-building events to continue to empower the CIS staff
Steward the professional development of alumni in collaboration with the Department of External Relations and Alumni Affairs
Oversee the fulfillment of faculty responsibilities as they pertain to experiential education
Serve as arbiter or intermediary in matters of student/employer issues related to internships, following procedures to ensure fairness
Oversee the planning for and execution of career fairs and special programming events
Represent CIS department to other departments at LIM College, fostering collaboration and serving as an inter-departmental liaison–
Advise the Provost on the development of policies and procedures related to experiential education
Assess all new companies that wish to participate in the College's experiential education program, and continually re-evaluate existing industry partners to ensure quality of student experiences
Develop a strategy for cultivating industry partners and job opportunities that are geographically diverse and appropriate for different categories of students (i.e., undergraduate, MPS, brick-and-mortar, online)
Explore new internship models, including virtual and remote internship opportunities
Expand the scope of experiential learning opportunities to strengthen students' career readiness
Develop and manage annual budget for CIS department
Collaborate with other departments at the institution, including coordinating representation of the CIS department at college-wide events, such as open houses, presidential lunch forums, meetings of the Industry Advisory Board
Report to the President and Provost assessment and reporting metrics and ensure appropriate templates are updated and communicated on timely basis
Work with the President and Provost to ensure metrics are appropriate and accurate, and update the College community on activity, trends in employment, and other data collected by the CIS department
Educational Development and Assessment
In collaboration with the Provost, direct the development of the experiential education curriculum (on-ground and online) to include the assessment of learning objectives both in the classroom and in the field
Direct the development and management of the student professional portfolio development process
Ensure that the experiential learning curriculum leads to the highest quality of career readiness and placement in conjunction with Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies, as appropriate.
Collaborate with the Office of External Relations and Alumni Affairs to strengthen existing and establish new relationships with industry partners
REQUIREMENTS: The person selected will have the following qualifications:
Working knowledge of career development best practices; familiarity with experiential education; thorough understanding of the needs of employers in the fashion industry; ability to articulate the goals and outcomes of the CIS department; ability to think and act strategically.
Ten or more years of progressive experience either in a college career counseling or advisement center or equivalent experience in an industry setting; successful management and supervisory experience; ability to work effectively with staff from within and outside the department, as well as with the experiential faculty; ; experience in fostering a team that works well and cohesively towards meeting near- and long-term goals.
