The Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Researcher in the Professional Research Series. In this position, you will serve as program manager for Treg therapy process development for the UCSF Regulatory T Cell (Treg) Group. You will develop CRISPR-Cas9 based approaches to manufacture regulatory T cell based cellular therapies in preparation for first-in-human clinical trials at UCSF. This job will require daily hands-on laboratory work with human T cells and creativity in solving problems that arise during product development. You will have supervisory responsibility for other scientists and oversight over cellular therapy manufacturing activities. You will report directly to the medical director of the Treg group, Dr. Jonathan Esensten. You will also work closely with the group of Dr. Alex Marson.
Translation of preclinical advances into cellular therapy treatments requires a team approach and you will need to be an effective communicator and a team player. You will work closely with basic scientists, physicians, experts in quality assurance, and experts in regulatory affairs to optimize each step in cell therapy manufacturing. The end goal is to develop a GMP-compliant manufacturing process using CRISPR-Cas9 technology in Treg and then transfer that process to a clinical GMP laboratory for clinical scale manufacturing and completion of a clinical trial. You will oversee and participate in GMP manufacturing as needed. Please see treg.ucsf.edu for more information about our group.
Required Qualifications: • Professional Research series appointees at the rank of Researcher must have a terminal degree (MD or PhD) • At least 2 years of experience in cellular therapy process development • Experience performing flow cytometry • Experience with T cell isolation and manipulation • Experience with cellular therapy or biologic drug development • Understanding of cGMP requirements in drug manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications: • PhD degree in cellular immunology or molecular biology
Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training. Please apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF02753.
