DIRECTOR, ALUMNI PROGRAMS & EVENTS
Alumni Relations at Boston University is a key component of the Campaign for Boston University. Responsible for connecting with, engaging, and helping foster lifetime connections with the 300,000 Boston University Alumni across the globe, Alumni Relations is the first point of contact for alums looking to reconnect or engage with their alma mater.
As a senior member of the Alumni Relations team, the Director will lead the strategic design and implementation of university-wide alumni events including Alumni Weekend, Global Days of Service, and educational and cultural programming. The Director will also collaborate with the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and the Dean of Arts & Sciences on strategic alumni engagement for the College of Arts & Sciences and the Questrom School of Business. Leading a team of four professional staff members, the Director will develop strategies for engaging alumni and increasing their connection to each other and the University through events and programs. The Director must effectively interact with volunteer leaders, College/School Assistant Deans, and other DAR managers and directors.
Lead the development and implementation of Alumni Weekend, an annual event of more than 130 events engaging more than 3,000 alumni. Coordinate planning with on campus partners including 17 Colleges and Schools; Events and Conferences; Catering; Photo and Media Services; Facilities; BU Police; Agganis Arena; and others as needed. Responsible of planning and managing an annual budget of more than $180,000. Coordinate work of Development & Alumni Relations colleagues for Alumni Weekend, including the coordination of all event staffing.
Lead the development and implementation of Global Days of Service, a community service program involving more than 1500 alumni in 180 community service projects around the world. Coordinates the efforts of Alumni Relations staff in the implementation of marketing and support of projects.
Create, manage, implement - individually and through direct reports -- diverse alumni educational programs in areas such as lecture series, exclusive learning opportunities, travel, discussion groups, and webinars that highlight the College of Arts & Sciences and fall in line with the strategic priorities of Development & Alumni Relations and the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
Manage an Assistant Director for Alumni Programs and events, responsible for implementation of Alumni Weekend, Global Days of Service, and other marquee programs; two Assistant Directors responsible for College/School based alumni engagement; and a Senior Alumni Relations Associate.
In concert with Development Communication and University Marketing and Communication, develops targeted marketing and communication plans including digital, print and social media channels for Alumni Weekend and Global Days of Service.
Working with University Marketing and Communication and the Strategic Online Engagement oversee the website design for Alumni Weekend and Global Days of Service; including updates, branding, and integration with the online registration system.
Collect and analyze data that measures event participation/engagement to inform strategic planning of events and programs with the Executive Director and the Vice President for Alumni Relations.
Work as a member of the senior alumni relations team that includes the Vice President for Alumni Relations, the Executive Director of Alumni Relations, the Director of Strategic Alumni Engagement, the Director of Alumni Networks, and the Sr. Director of Career Programs.
A bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and 7-10 years of work experience, including a minimum of five years of experience in alumni relations with demonstrated success in leading complex programs, preferably in an institution of higher education.
Outstanding oral and written communication and presentation skills are required.
Experience managing a large diverse team of professionals performing in a fast paced, deadline driven environment with ability to motivate, grow, and retain high performers.
Strong ability to prioritize and adapt to changing needs, collaborate, and communicate well. Additionally, a high level of attention to detail and the project management components of the position.
Experience in online, print and social media marketing.
