WVU Talent and Culture is seeking applicants for the Employee Relations Specialist Senior role. This position is one of several that will be a part of a new service delivery model supporting all of WVU, which includes a shared services center, embedded HR partners and centers of expertise. This new model has provided internal employees growth opportunities, and as a result, we now have a variety of positions available across Talent and Culture.
This position will provide advanced-level employee relations support to both employees and management regarding human resources policies, procedures, and documentation, and will serve as the initial point of advice, problem resolution, and facilitation in the areas of employee relations.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Independently or as part of a team, provide advanced-level advice, counsel or interpretation regarding WVU HR policies, programs, performance management (including performance appraisals), the disciplinary process, the grievance process, and any other workplace problem or issue.
Advise senior administrators, supervisors, faculty, and staff in employee and labor relations matters, organizational development, as well as partner with them to investigate and resolve employee complaints.
Research, identify, and analyze complex employee relations/HR concerns/issues. Make appropriate presentations and recommendations to management.
Recommend and develop advanced employee relations/HR policies, practices and activities.
Audit and ensure uniform application of HR policies and procedures.
Research, interpret and provide information and guidance to employees, supervisors and management regarding federal and state laws as well as internal guidelines and policies.
Investigate complex employee grievances and participate in their resolution, including attending grievance conferences and hearings as necessary.
Assist in the mediation of conflict, as needed and as appropriate.
Work on projects assigned by AVP-HR. This may include analysis of data, documents, meeting with employees and/or managers/administrators, etc. May generate reports and/or summaries from analysis.
Attend meetings on behalf of AVP-HR.
Interact with HR Business Partners, Legal Affairs, colleagues in HR, employees, administrators, managers, supervisors, etc. to follow-up on HR issues which come to the AVP-HR's desk.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or University in human resources management, public administration, labor relations, business administration, law, psychology, or related field is required. A Master's degree in human resources or a related field is preferred.
Successful candidate will also have three (3) years experience in Human resources/employee relations or related work experience, plus in-depth working knowledge of human resource laws, including wage/hour statutes, Title VII, ADA, and FMLA, etc. Equivalent combination of education, training, certifications and work experience may be considered.
Professional certification preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP)
