The Chairperson of Kinesiology is a 12-month position that reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences and serves as the chief administrative and academic leader of the department. The Chairperson will be expected to provide visionary and strategic leadership for the department. In addition to the general oversight of the department, the chairperson will be responsible for strategic planning; budget development, management and allocation; recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and retaining faculty and students; managing and improving curricula; providing faculty development activities and conducting faculty and staff evaluations; fund-raising; interacting with other department and university leaders to represent the goals and effective operations of the department. The chairperson must implement strategies to promote student success.
The successful candidate must possess: a) a doctoral degree in health, kinesiology, recreation, or a related field, (b) experience that will support appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, c) a minimum of three years of experience in an administrative or management position, d) a minimum of three years teaching at the collegiate level at an institution that emphasized teaching, scholarly productivity, and engagement within the human performance and leisure studies discipline, and e) a strong record of extramural funding. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies is required.
Preference is given to the candidate with experience managing educational programs at the university level in a dynamic environment. Primary experience securing and maintaining CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accreditation is preferred.
