Full Time/Part Time
The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (ChBE) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is seeking a transformational leader to serve as the next Department Chair. Founded in 1870 in Rolla, Missouri S&T is a highly selective, top research university with approximately 9000 students. Missouri S&T is part of the four-campus University of Missouri System and conveniently situated 100 miles from St. Louis. New campus leadership has a vision to transform S&T into a leading public technological research university for discovery, creativity, and innovation.
The new Department Chair will build upon our strengths of a student-centered, experiential learning environment; a young, aspirational faculty; and an accomplished alumni base to grow the department's national and international reputation. Donated by alumni, our new, state-of-the-art 68,500-square-foot facility features unique, modular research labs, high-bay areas, and multi-media classrooms. The next Chair will enable others to strengthen and develop research relationships, as well as leverage campus-wide strategic initiatives to spur regional and statewide growth.
The ChBE department at Missouri S&T is the largest Chemical Engineering department in Missouri. The ChBE department currently has 12 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 3 teaching faculty, close to 400 undergraduate students and 70 graduate students, plus thousands of dedicated alumni in various sectors. In addition to ABET-accredited BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering, the department is looking to offer a graduate certificate program in Safety and Process Intensification and an expanded Biochemical Engineering BS degree.
The qualified candidates will be renowned scholars with an earned doctorate in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. They will have demonstrated a strong commitment to diversity and an outstanding record of excellence in research, teaching, and service at a level commensurate with an appointment as a tenured, full professor. The successful candidates will possess visionary leadership abilities, rooted in shared governance and the commitment to build a high-performance team.
Missouri S&T is one of the nation's leading research universities with 98 degree programs in 39 disciplines. It was founded in 1870 as one of the first technological institutions west of the Mississippi. Located about 100 miles west of St. Louis in the multicultural community of Rolla, Missouri S&T is an accessible, safe and friendly campus surrounded by Ozarks scenery. Missouri S&T offers degrees in engineering, the sciences, liberal arts, humanities and business, with master's and Ph.D. programs available in many of the science and engineering programs and master's degrees in biological sciences, business administration and technical communication. With nearly 9,000 students enrolled on campus and online, Missouri S&T is big enough to accommodate a diverse population, yet small enough for individuals to build high visibility and impactful careers! Missouri S&T seeks to meet the needs of dual-career couples.
