The Department of Biology at the University of Saint Joseph invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor starting August 2020. The growing department serves both undergraduate and graduate biology majors, as well as nursing, nutrition, public health, health science, and other STEM majors. Our students have a broad range of interests including healthcare professions, cellular and molecular biomedical research, and environmental/ecological biology fields.
Primary responsibilities include teaching 24-credits each year, as well as active participation in curriculum development, service to the department and university, advising, and maintaining an active research program. The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in teaching in higher education (especially introductory biology courses), be able to teach upper level courses in biology, and demonstrate how they would engage in productive research involving undergraduate students. This faculty member will primarily teach introductory cellular and organismal biology and health-science focused courses. Teaching online graduate courses that complement their background is a possibility.
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline (ABD candidates will be considered). A successful post-doctoral research experience is looked upon favorably. Preferred skills include: effectiveness in varied teaching pedagogies, utilization of inclusive and equitable teaching practices for a diverse student body, and the ability to implement a research program involving undergraduate students. Applicants also must have cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population, a commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph, and the physical ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Those interviewed will be asked to demonstrate their teaching effectiveness, present a scholarly seminar, and provide evidence of a commitment to understanding diverse populations as part of a successful on-campus interview process.
