This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Strategic Communications and Public Affairs (StratComm) leads an important role in helping to shape and strengthen San Diego State University’s brand and visibility of the Office of the President and campus-wide initiatives. The team also advances institutional effectiveness in marketing, communications and both community and governmental affairs. StratComm is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Communications and Digital Services Assistant. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and a community orientation.
Reporting to the Director of Digital Services and Business Analytics, working closely with the Communications and Digital Services Specialist, as well periodic support offered to the other members of the StratComm team, the Communications and Digital Services Assistant will: support email marketing as needed; assist in data management and other information in our databases, while helping to ensure data quality; pull data for reporting purposes; and support web functions while upholding web and accessibility standards.
This role is to support StratComm’s technology communications, under the direction of the Director of Digital Services and Business Analytics, which include assistance with setting up and managing email campaigns, assisting with website updates as well media tracking, and collecting analytics for marketing reports. The Communications and Digital Services Assistant will support the development of email campaigns for university employees within the department’s marketing automation tool, and assist as needed with other email communications and marketing efforts.
Core responsibilities include: designing, testing and scheduling the weekly NewsCenter e-newsletter; responding to daily campus and general community messages directed to the StratComm team; and supporting the team for any technology needs.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,667 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,923 - $5,283 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Knowledge of the fundamentals of integrated marketing communications. This is normally obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in marketing, communication, or related field.
Basic knowledge of email campaign setup using a marketing automation tool.
Ability to update and manage recipient lists using Excel and a marketing automation tool.
Basic knowledge of website updates using a content management tool.
Basic knowledge of layout and graphics for email campaigns and websites.
Ability to organize and plan work and projects including handling multiple priorities.
Ability to extract and compile data to support email and web marketing reports.
Detail orientation and ability to facilitate general copy editing.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for StratComm.
