The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing invites applications and nominations for the faculty role of Nurse Scientist. This position will facilitate the UAB Nursing Partnership, an academic-practice partnership between the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing (UABSON) and UAB Nursing within the UAB Medicine health system located in a world-renowned academic health science center. This position will benefit both partnership members through shared evidence-based practice (EBP) projects, collaborative nursing research, and the collaborative dissemination of this scholarly work through joint publications and presentations. This position will continue to help move nursing practice at UAB Medicine to the next level of excellence by creating and sustaining an environment supportive of EBP, nursing research, clinical scholarship, and Magnet standards of practice.
The School of Nursing's legacy of leadership is focused on innovative programs of research, education, and clinical practice as evidenced in more than 17,000 alumni serving as expert clinicians, executive nurse leaders, deans and directors of nursing programs, nurse scientists, advanced practice registered nurses, and other professional leaders. Coverdell Peace Corps Fellows program and is one of the leading VA Nursing Academic Partnerships in the nation. Candidates for this faculty position must possess a doctoral degree in Nursing (PhD, DNSc) or related field (SCD, DrPH). A minimum of ten years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) with 3 years of experience as a Nurse Scientist or related role preferred. Five or more years of academic nursing (teaching, research) experience preferred. Demonstrated skills in human relations, communication and interprofessional collaboration required. Candidates must hold active licensure or be eligible for licensure as an RN in Alabama. Faculty will teach across programs in accordance with their specialty preparation and consistent with the needs of the UAB Nursing Partnership. Preference for candidates with an established pattern of publication success (research/reviews) in peer-reviewed journals as first author and invited podium presentations at local/national meetings. Research experience should include multiple research designs/methods, and evidence of publication of findings. Experience in improvement and safety science preferred. Experience in an academic health science center preferred. Experience with extramural funding processes and funding preferred. Grant writing experience preferred. Has portfolio that could achieve appointment at the UAB School of Nursing at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
