Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Under the direct supervision of the Lab Manager, Senior Investigator, and Principal Investigator, the laboratory technician performs a variety of routine research laboratory procedures in accordance with established standards and protocols. Specific duties may vary according to project assigned, the initial focus would be cell culture, biochemistry, protein structural modelling, molecular biology experiments and record keeping.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of research laboratory techniques with primary focus on protein biochemistry. Techniques to be performed may include, but are not limited to: plasmid preparation, protein expression, gel electrophoresis, computer tools for data analysis. Documents and reports all experimental results. Completes required logs and supporting documents.
Work requires precision, attention to detail and strong communication skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions, both oral and written, organize and prioritize work and follow through on assignments. Must be able to work successfully as part of a team in a dynamic laboratory. Flexibility to adapt to changes in experimental schedules is highly desired.
Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):High school diploma/GED with some science coursework, especially physics and biology
Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or prior laboratory/clinic research experience.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some research experience with protein expression
Some experience with programming would be a plus
Strong interpersonal skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Illustrator
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in multiple media, such as by email, verbally, phone, phone messages. Communication also includes listening skills and the ability to follow directions and provide feedback.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
