The English Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position in Composition and Rhetoric. Rank and salary commensurate with experience. Responsibilities: Teaching three courses each semester for majors and nonmajors at introductory through advanced levels, with opportunities to teach in summer, in our January term, and in study abroad programs. In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to advise and mentor students, contribute to department and university service, and be engaged in scholarship and publication, including possible collaborative research with undergraduates. The successful candidate will also help the department create and lead initiatives for excellence in writing curriculum and pedagogy.
Applicants should be prepared to support our diverse students who are characteristically passionate about social justice and plan to use their education to lead and influence globally. Experience teaching less prepared or first-generation students is preferred, as is research that includes intersectional and critical race pedagogies.
Though most writing courses are offered in the on-campus baccalaureate women’s college, English faculty also teach in the College for Adults in online and hybrid formats. Preferred candidates will also bring secondary experience in any of the following areas: business and medical writing, medical humanities, or cultural, film, and media studies.

Required qualifications: Applicants from many fields are welcome, but preference will be given to candidates whose published research is in the fields of Composition, Rhetoric, and Professional Writing. This scholar will be joining a small but innovative and collaborative faculty of English and Spanish professors holding interdisciplinary and team-teaching commitments and sharing requirements with ASL, Education, Honors, Women’s Studies, Critical Studies of Race and Ethnicity, and the Core Curriculum.
A doctoral degree in Composition and Rhetoric or a related field, earned by May 2020, along with demonstrated evidence of a commitment to excellence in research and teaching.
