The Research Technician will assist the Lab Manager in establishing/set-up of the Garden Lab. Will be responsible for a broad range of duties that have been delegated to him/her. Main duties include, but not limited to: 1) mouse handling, breeding and genotyping; 2) mouse brain preparation for dissociation or tissue sectioning; 3) immuno-labeling cells and tissue sections for microscopic analysis; 4) flow cytometry and fluorescence activated cell sorting; 5) RNA extraction, PCR and sequencing; 6) nuclei isolation from sorted cells for epigenetic analysis.
This position will require two- or three-week trainings over the period of 3-4 months at the University of Washington and assistance with packing, moving and setting up the new lab at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Education and Experience:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Knowledge and competency to conduct basic science research. Ability to organize and tabulate data; ability to ensure quality control of data collection. Ability to maintain inventory of equipment, supplies, and related materials. General knowledge of applicable area of science to perform laboratory procedures and tests in support of research protocol.
Must have strong communication skills, be well organized and use good research practices.
The preferred candidate will have some experience or education in the field of neuroscience. Experience working with rodents is preferred. Strong ability to work independently is highly desired.
