Rutgers, the State University Of New Jersey is seeking a motivated part-time Temporary Research Assistant for the Center on Gun Violence Research at the School of Public Health. The Temporary Research Assistant will assist with the development, implementation and analysis of gun violence related research studies.
This position is located in Piscataway, NJ. This project partnership is supported by the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) and OSHE is a project partner.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists the PI and the team with the design, planning, and implementation of studies, including designing the statistical approaches to data analysis.
Critically appraises and synthesizes epidemiological literature using best practice methodologies to evaluate published evidence.
Works with the Research Core to standardize research and analytical processes to improve efficiency and quality of deliverables.
Formulates and addresses research questions using a variety of analytical techniques applied to various databases.
Utilizes data analysis software (SPSS, SAS) to interpret and analyze data
Maintains contact with project collaborators including community, city and academic partners.
Prepares reports for studies containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Provides monthly update presentations to research team.
Prepares and submits a full close-out report upon completion of the study to the PI.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or Statistics, plus 1 year of experience in academia, government, or industry in the areas of design and analysis of projects.
Applicant must be enrolled in doctoral programs full-time, in pursuit of advanced degrees.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applicant must be able to interact well with people in a professional environment as well as community settings, should have good organizational and analytical skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Interest in some aspect of gun violence research.
Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations.
Must have valid driver's license and vehicle as occasional travel within NJ may be required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift or exert up to 25 pounds.
