The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with the applicant's experience (i.e. at the assistant, associate, or full professor level).
Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related discipline. We particularly invite scientists interested in translational research who aim to make a definitive clinical impact. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of (or tremendous potential for, at the Assistant Professor level) obtaining external research support, as well as excellent investigative, communication, and leadership skills. The candidate is expected to develop outstanding research and teaching programs on both the graduate and undergraduate levels. This includes the development of both undergraduate and graduate courses, the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, and academic advising of students at all levels. One defined area of interest, in conjunction with the Rutgers Institute for Translational Medicine & Science, is a university-wide effort to bring Rutgers' broad capabilities to generate and manage large and unique clinical data, cell, protein, and tissue banks for the development and validation of new technologies. This position may include, but is not limited to, the development and translation of technologies for disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of unmet clinical needs; Research that addresses heterogeneity of disease and treatment response (i.e. research that considers individual differences in people's genes, environments, and/or lifestyles) will embrace this growing environment that encourages and nurtures entrepreneurship. Among the research areas that may be compatible with this focus include Systems Biology, Imaging and Image Analysis, Biosensors, Cellular Engineering, Biomanufacturing, Neuroengineering, Synthetic Biology, and Medical Device Design.
