The University of Michigan Urban and Regional Planning Program invites applications for a new faculty member to be appointed at thetenured associate or full professor level to serve as program chair for a three-year renewable term. The new chair will lead a diverse planning program committed to the pursuit of greater opportunities for all people and resilient and sustainable societies through innovative scholarship, engaged learning, and meaningful service. The program is comprised of 22 faculty, 77 master’s students, and 20 PhD students, and is ranked as a top 10 planning program.
The program chair is the administrative leader of the Urban and Regional Planning Program with responsibility for instructional, budgetary, admissions, and recruitment activities. Areas of specialization are open. In the coming years we will pursue online and alternative-degree offerings, and develop new initiatives in urban data and technology, equitable and sustainable real estate development, and climate resilience. We seek a chair whose achievements in research, practice, and/or teaching equip them to lead this work in partnership with faculty and administrative colleagues across the college.

The Urban and Regional Planning Program at the University of Michigan empowers faculty, students, and community partners to promote social justice and enhance sustainability through urban and regional planning. A Ph.D. degree in urban planning or a closely related field such as geography, environmental studies, social work, or public policy, and/or a distinguished record in field changing practice
Tenurable at an academic institution, with experience in a faculty appointment
A demonstrated ability to secure research funding
Experience in a leadership position
A sustained interest in collaborating with disciplinary and interdisciplinary colleagues to design and engage in research projects
Commitment to research and publication that informs teaching and learning in a program with a diverse student body
