The Program Director will create the intellectual environment, coordinate formal instruction, and ensure the broad experiences necessary for residents to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for high-quality, equitable emergency care and the ability to critically evaluate and study their practice. The residency program director will oversee the overall educational experience of the EM residency program including administration, operations, and implementation of educational content. The PD will also be in charge of recruitment, programmatic and learner evaluation and assessment including disciplinary action. They will also have responsibility for supervision of residents and resident education in the context of patient care. The director will coordinate and lead a robust team of educators including associate and assistant program directors and interface with the directors of the other departmental educational programs to assure a unified vision to our department’s core mission. The PD is responsible to the Associate Chair for Education, EM Chair, and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education.

Clinical responsiblities and bedside teaching responsibilities: Adult Emergency Department the University Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
MD or DO Degree required. Candidates must meet all criteria as outlined in the RRC-EM requirements and the institutional Program Director Duties and Responsibilities policy including board certification in Emergency Medicine and eligibility for licensure in the State of Michigan. A minimum of three-years of experience as a core faculty member with an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency or experience acceptable to the RRC-EM is required. Prior leadership experience as a PD/APD with an EM residency or ACGME-accredited Fellowship program is highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate ongoing involvement in scholarly activity including peer reviewed publications. It is of utmost importance that candidates model outstanding professionalism, high-quality patient care, educational excellence, and academic rigor. Demonstration of the ability to create a collaborative, respectful environment with a focus on development of all to their highest potential will be a key attribute of successful candidates.
