Reporting to the Executive Director, Facilities Communications, the Assistant Director works a part of the Strategic Communications team on the development, implementation and ongoing management of communications strategies for several departments within the Facilities and Operations portfolio, including Public Safety, Columbia Residential, Construction Business Initiatives and Finance and Administration
Help develop, implement, and manage the communication program for Public Safety, Columbia Residential, Construction Business Initiatives, Finance & Administration departments and the Office of the Executive Vice President using various communications conduits (web/online, multi-media, emails, bulletins, articles, update reports, print materials and presentations).
Lead and collaborate with various members of the departments' leadership team to create communication campaigns that deliver targeted information to the University's diverse group of constituents.
Develop targeted, relevant, pertinent and constituent-specific information for Public Safety, Columbia Residential, Construction Business Initiatives, Finance & Administration departments.
Oversee and provide quality control of key messages and management of the departments' brand. Provide ongoing editorial assistance to the senior officers in the departments.
Review/edit written material prepared by others for message consistency, format, grammar, and style.
Maintain current and relevant content on departmental websites.
Manage the planning and implementation of public events to promote departments (CU Grow Graduation, Public Safety Awareness Days, etc.)
Spearheads communications for Emergency Management Operations Team (EMOT)
Support the University's office of Communications and Public Affairs by providing detailed informational briefings for use in working with the media.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4-6 years of related experience required.
Strong writing skills with solid experience in delivering messages to diverse audiences across diverse mediums.
Solid knowledge of technologies (desktop publishing, graphic software, presentation software).
Knowledge of methods and techniques used in public information campaigns, branding, and marketing.
Strong listening, speaking, and presentation skills.
Strong editing skills.
Must be self-motivated and service oriented.
Ability to work independently, with appropriate initiative, creativity, and attention to detail and confidentiality required.
Possess a sense of humor, can-do attitude, and a commitment to teamwork.
Must understand University campus services related issues and be able to explain in terms that are easily understood by all constituent groups.
Proven ability to bring closure to projects in a quality and timely manner.
Ability to interact effectively cross-functionally with all levels of University personnel.
Ability to identify opportunities to promote Columbia's brand.
Ability and willingness to work evenings and some weekends are required.
Advanced degree desirable.
Experience with web development/content management/user experience, social media, photo and video for communications initiatives highly preferred.
