Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field in hand by January 1, 2020. Strong track-record in microbiology and water treatment is required including a proven publication record on these topics in leading peer-reviewed journals.
Experience with molecular tools, modeling and bioinformatics.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Department of Civil Engineering at Stony Brook University, NY is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of Environmental Engineering with a focus on the microbial function and ecology of wastewater treatment process. The researcher will conduct research on novel treatment technologies for decentralized wastewater and biological remediation of groundwater with contaminants of emerging concerns. The work will include bioreactor operation, microbial function analyses involved in the natural/engineered treatment system. The successful applicant is expected to work independently on the project and can also contribute to other ongoing investigations in the lab, as well as ongoing collaboration with scientists from the New York State Center for Clean Water Technology and other universities. Successful candidates will have strong record of original research and possess very good writing communication skills.
The incumbent will:
Conduct original research within the above scope, developing, evaluating and benchmarking new techniques.
Coordinate research efforts within the Environmental Engineering Lab in the Civil Engineering Department, interacting closely with graduate students and occasionally undergraduates.
Participate in manuscript writing for publ ication in scientific conferences/journals, presentations and federal/state grant applications.
Other duties as assigned.
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
