The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) invites applications and nominations for the position of Instructional Technologist. The University seeks a knowledgeable, highly motivated person with professional experience in providing Instructional Technology services and instruction to higher education faculty. Preferred starting date is November 25, 2019.
Growth of online programs is part of UMKC's strategic plan. UMKC Instructional Design/Technology (ID/T) is the department that is responsible for supporting the growth of online programs at UMKC. Instructional Technologists assist the growth of online programs in a number of ways: provision of workshops on eLearning technologies, development and update of 24 x 7 online eLearning resources for faculty and students at UMKC, support and maintenance of UMKC's online teaching tools, and provide faculty support in the development of online courses and programs. The instructional technologist will be part of an instructional design team consisting of both instructional designers and instructional technologists.
The Instructional Technologist position has broad campus responsibilities associated with the development of UMKC certified online courses and programs and is charged with the following responsibilities:
Bridge technology solutions and pedagogical strategies by providing technical support to faculty in use of technology applications while reinforcing pedagogical best practices.
Provide workshops which address both the technical and pedagogical applications of our enterprise educational technologies such as learning management systems (LMS), lecture capture systems, streaming servers, learning object creation tools, and academic content repositories, etc.
Promote and facilitate utilization of educational technologies, including strategic and tactical support programs for instructors.
Serve as the main point of contact for the UMKC ID/T support website and blog.
Plan, design and conduct workshops, seminars, faculty online teaching certification training and other presentations related to educational technology.
Update UMKC ID/T website as necessary to keep content fresh and accurate.
Maintain topical information regarding changing trends in teaching and learning with technology and complete research and development of best practices and solutions for instructional design.
Design and produce learning materials regarding these trends in a variety of formats including print, graphic, audio/video and multimedia to support teaching, learning, and university needs.
Provide support to individual faculty in the development of technology-enhanced curriculum and instruction through consultations, workshops, informational briefings, and other activities.
Assess courses to determine if UMKC specific quality guidelines and desired learning outcomes have been met.
Provide online design instruction to faculty and staff through consultations, workshops, informational briefings and other activities.
Plan, design and conduct workshops, seminars, faculty online teaching certification training and other presentations related to various aspects of educational technology.
Design and produce learning materials regarding trends in the use of educational technology in a variety of formats including print, graphic, audio/video and multimedia to support teaching, learning, and university needs.
UMKC representation in state and national discussions and initiatives focused on online learning
Participate in accreditation activities related to online programs.
Other duties as assigned
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Successful higher education or corporate experience in providing faculty support for educational technology use.
At least two years' experience with Instructional Technology in higher education or within a corporate training group.
Experience with a variety of technology-based online/eLearning educational tools such as VoiceThread, Canvas, Camtasia, WebEx, Zoom, Panopto, multi-media or equivalent eLearning tools.
Extensive experience in working with faculty on educational technology implementation.
Excellent listening, written and oral communication skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Effective organizational skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines and to work independently.
High personal integrity.
Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and implement complex strategic goals and program initiatives
Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully demonstrated 3-5 years of experience in Instructional Technology support with faculty at an institution of higher education or within a corporate training office.
