The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine seeks a Laboratory Specialist in an internationally recognized pulmonary research program in studies of inflammatory lung diseases.
The position requires performance of mouse models of lung disease to understand different aspects of lung inflammation and its regulation. Experiments will include subjecting mice to appropriate animal models of respiratory disorders. Analysis of the animal experiments will involve processing of animal tissue for histology/microscopy, lung lavage, immunological assays, and preparation of lung extracts for protein and RNA isolation. Experimental techniques will involve assessment of differential cell counts in BAL fluid, lung tissue histology, RNA isolation and qRT-PCR, multiplex protein (cytokine) analysis of serum and tissue, ELISA, and additional techniques.
The individual will be trained where necessary. There will be opportunities to be trained in additional cutting-edge techniques. As needed, the individual will also participate in various day-to-day activities in order to maintain the lab. In addition, the individual will participate in the disposal of used reagents according to regulations. The individual must have good knowledge of laboratory skills including basic mathematical skills to have a high level of self-sufficiency and the ability to work independently. Appropriate training and supervision will be provided. Meticulous work habits, dependability, and good communication skills are required.
