Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU), a highly selective national liberal arts university with a College of Fine Arts (Art, Music and Theatre Arts) and a School of Nursing, seeks applications and nominations for the position of president.
The president will lead an institution that has distinguished itself as a strong, independent liberal arts university with outstanding professional schools and pre-professional programs. With a student body of approximately 1,630 undergraduates and 158 FTE faculty, IWU is situated on a beautiful 82-acre campus in the twin cities of Bloomington/Normal. The cities, located within two and a half hours from Chicago and St. Louis, have a combined population of 129,000 and a strong economy with higher education, healthcare, insurance, and manufacturing as its leading sectors. The president will lead the evolution of an institution with existing core strengths, enhancing its educational opportunities to remain innovative and compelling to students now and in the future.
The successful candidate will have experience with and enthusiasm for promoting an institution with a rich liberal arts tradition and vision; will demonstrate a record of successful administrative experience with a transparent and collegial leadership style; will command respect within the scholarly community; and will demonstrate the capacity to be a successful agent of change. Outstanding fiscal and budgetary skills are required, as are outstanding communication skills, including and especially a capacity and a determination to actively listen to all of the University’s varied constituencies. The successful candidate will demonstrate a firm and actionable understanding of higher education's current circumstances and the marketplace for institutions of IWU's type as well as a history of innovative leadership.
