Posting Summary: The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The Chair will be responsible for the management of the academic program. The Chair must have strong and innovative leadership and vision for the continued growth of the department and the continuous development of faculty. The Chair will demonstrate excellent communication and fiscal management skills, ability to mentor faculty, promote student achievement, a record of scholarly achievement, and evidence of extramural funding. The Chair will also teach in his or her area(s) of interest and engage in institutional, professional, and community service and research.
Located in Nashville, the Department of Physical Therapy at Tennessee State University offers a thee-year, lockstep, entry-level DPT degree in a traditional format to a cohort of 36 students per class. The Chair will lead a cadre of 8 faculty members, a lab competency coordinator, and an administrative assistant as it moves into a new state-of-the-art Health Sciences Building with a movement science lab in 2020. In Fall 2019, the Departments of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy opened a student-run pro bono PT/OT clinic. The Nashville area itself has been ranked 15th by U.S. News as one of the best places to live in the country based on quality of life, the job market, the overall value of living, and people's desire to live in the area. In addition to country music, Nashville is considered one of the growing healthcare meccas in the country; the Chair is expected to develop partnerships of mutual benefit with this industry.
