Posting Summary: Job Description: Tennessee State University is seeking a visionary leader for a tenure-track position as Head of the Department of Human Sciences. The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Agriculture and is responsible for the department's academic, research and outreach programs, governance, and financial affairs. The Department Chair acts as the department's advocate, leading it in developing and implementing a strategic plan that aligns with college and university's strategic plans. The incumbent will also work with and lead the faculty in pursuit of grants, contracts, and publications, and facilitate faculty participation in interdisciplinary and/or distance programs as appropriate. The candidate should demonstrate capability and potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals, and manage the needs of the AAFCS and ASCEND accredited programs. They will also oversee an on-site Early Learning Center, and provide leadership and administrative support for growth in instruction, research experiential and service learning. In addition, the successful candidate will develop interactions and productive partnerships with external constituents in the local and regional community. The Department has three academic programs: Child Development and Family Studies, Fashion Merchandising, and Foods and Nutritional Sciences. The successful candidate must have the background to teach in one of those three areas, and will build the undergraduate program in each of these areas. The chair will also have an opportunity to initiate a graduate program.
